As everyone complains, this thing doesn't stay open on its own! I've had this cover on my other boats, none of them had this problem. Accessing the radio is just a torture, you have to hold the door open with one hand and operate it with the other. Soon you'll be good enough to open the door and operate it with one hand, but it's still just dumb. At least it protects the stereo from water, which is a good thing. I've searched but haven't found a way to modify the spring inside to stay open. If I have to take it out to modify it, I just completely replace it with a better brand and send the junk to Goodwill! My advice? Find another brand to install and if it can't stay open on its own send it back before you take the time to install it on your boat.
