Review on ๐Ÿฅค SLUXKE 1 Gallon Water Bottle: Time Marker, Straw, BPA Free, Leak Proof - Stay Motivated! by Doug Small

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Strong plastic smell, potentially hazardous type of plastic

I recently received a SLUXKE 1 gallon water bottle and was surprised by the strong plastic smell. I washed the pitcher, let it dry, added fresh/filtered water and even that water got a chemical taste during the day. If you look at the bottom of the bottle, it says it's PETG #7. According to multiple online sources, "It's best to avoid plastic #7" and "Code 7 is the recycling code for plastic that contains BPA." However, I'm not sure if that's BPA-free or even food safe is. I contacted the seller with these concerns and received no response. A quick look at other similar plastic gallon jugs on Revain shows the use of the same #7 plastic which unfortunately is excellent. Great concept, nice jug but fake plastic! UPDATE: Given the strong plastic smell of this bottle upon arrival, and the fact that the bottle itself says PETG (polyethylene terephthalate glycol) 7 (the "other" plastic), I had my reservations. However, I've added a new image to show the rest of the labels on the bottom of the bottle, which state (from left to right) that the bottle is food safe, BPA free, and DEHP free. Whether that's true or not, I don't know. However, it is fair to point out what is written on the bottle itself. Even after several cycles of hand-washing the bottle with some dish soap and then a little baking soda and cold water, followed by airing it out for days (that's the key part), the plastic smell went away over time. All in all, I think it took weeks. In terms of functionality, I like the bottle very much. The lid design is great and feels pretty solid. The straw is the right size and works well too. I've been using it for 6 months now and drink a full gallon every day. I can't swear it's 100% airtight if it tips over, but I add that the wide base keeps it upright in my car when I'm riding with a bottle on the passenger footpeg. It slips but doesn't tip over. So 5 stars for functionality. Overall, however, due to some potential concerns about the type of plastic and the initial odor issue (which is a big issue in itself), I'll give this bottle a 4-star rating overall, assuming the bottle is food safe. Free from BPA and DEHP as stated on the packaging.
