I'm pretty torn about this monitor. it's good but not great. I care less about USB ports, speakers, memory card readers and the like. Fluff What I want is a monitor, not a Swiss Army knife. My other monitor is a 21 inch Trinitron CRT with BNC cable. It has shown its age lately and this ViewSonic is its replacement. I think it's unfair that I'm going from an amazing CRT to a cheaper LCD, but hey, that's life. I didn't lose that much screen real estate with this monitor. The image size on my CRT was just over 19 inches. When recalculating, I lost a few square centimeters by changing the aspect ratio. However, your mileage may vary between different monitors. So here are my complaints about my copy of this monitor. The first thing that struck me was the anti-reflective coating on this panel. it reminds me of noise in a digital photo taken at high ISOs. it is a very good sound. it has no color or pattern like a raised sensor. Difficult to see in a complex image or movie, but noticeable in a gradient or monochrome test pattern. This "noise" is annoying when post processing images and using things like Noise Ninja. This makes it difficult to tell if the picture itself has noise, or if the LCD's anti-glare coating is contributing to its "noise" and tricking your eyes. Yes, I can zoom in on the image, but should I? I recently moved the monitor back a good 18 inches to see if it gets any better. (something I could never do with a huge 21" CRT) very good contrast good brightness good although too bright for me out of the box size is good (again my other monitor is huge and heavy 21" trinitrone). looks great from behind if that means anything to you.clarity is very good.text is very sharp.dvi, dsub and speaker cable included.there is a color profile on the driver cd that you can use.but that damn anti-glare filter annoys me. I have not calibrated the monitor using a dedicated calibration tool. Maybe I should. My suggestion is to go to a store and find a good quality graphics card with DVI. Unless you intend to process images in pixels and do extensive image post-processing - processing will surely serve you well, but if you... check this monitor out for yourself before you buy it and decide if I'd have to do th it again , I don't know what I would get. smart shot for the dollar, this is the current winner.
