After my daughter moved out and we turned her old room into a guest room, I did a little renovation of her bathroom and found that the sink drain wasn't working. I removed the old mechanism and found that the end of the shaft that raises and lowers the drain plug is completely rusted. This was presumably the result of some facial chemicals and something else she poured down the drain or flushed, as the faucet of the same model in the other bathroom was still in near-pristine condition. Although I didn't have part numbers, this part listed here on Revain certainly looked exactly like the old part and turned out to be an exact replacement. Very easy to fix, it was an inexpensive solution that allowed going without a tap for many years.
