I have two large red-eared sliders in 45 gallons of water in a 90 gallon aquarium. They're incredibly dirty, and maintaining water balance has always been difficult. Depending on seasonal eating habits, they need a full cleaning about every 2 weeks. This is by far the best charcoal I've used in the 10 years I've had! The water stayed crystal clear (I mean CRYSTAL!) for days longer than any other water (I've used Marineland pellets and other brands of pellets in the past). So I was able to install a better loop tank. Yes, it requires quite a bit of rinsing, but it's not really a problem - it's a bit of a compromise in the results I get, so I got over it quickly! This charcoal was made for aquarium use, so if you are going to use it for something else it is better to use non-granular fine charcoal (should be kept in a bag/container). Especially in the drinking fountain, where the color of the water is scrutinized! (it's more psychological, a slight coloring of the dust from the activated carbon filter is harmless!). I highly recommend this charcoal, it has given me amazing results in very difficult aquarium conditions!
