I am a professional quilter. This iron was recommended to me by another professional. Now I had a lot of irons. From the top of the Rowenta line to the $14.99 K-Mart special. My favorite iron (Panasonic Cordless) died after many many hours of use and I wasn't thrilled with the Shark I bought but it did the job but when my friend recommended this iron I decided to trust it. And I'm glad I did. Jerry Granata was great. This iron is strong but not too heavy. It glides over the fabric. Handling is quite easy for a child. I'm baffled by people who say the instructions aren't very good or that they are "still learning how to use them". This is an iron. This is how you iron the fabric. This isn't brain surgery. My biggest complaints about most irons are: 1) not hot enough (I mostly iron cotton); no problem here. It heats up FAST, getting comfortably hot but not burning; 2) not enough steam; Again, it doesn't matter. This iron produces plenty of steam when needed. 3) hung/pasted on the fabric; It's not iron. It glides like Dorothy Hamill on freshly filled ice. 3) spit and spatter; In hours (well over 50) I've used this iron, no spitting, splattering, dripping or dribbles. 4) too light or too heavy; a light iron means you have to apply more pressure; heavy is a task to lift and use. This iron is like a teddy bear's bed. EXACTLY.
