Slow and Fading is Best in Computers & Accessories

I've wanted to make a Eink project on a Raspberry Pi for a long time. I ordered a 7.5" E-Paper Display HAT module from Waveshare. I connected it to my Raspberry Pi Zero W and uploaded the example code. I wrote a Python program that shows the time, weather, weather alerts , headlines, quote of the day and comics. I immediately noticed how slow this display is. It takes about 10 seconds to update. Then I also noticed that there is an issue with how graphics are rendered on the display and these appear faded in the bottom half. I found a few workarounds for the fading problem. First, invert the colors so that the entire background is black and the text is white, or increase the black level of the background. Neither is perfect. I want crisp black text on a white background No mottled background (increased black level) or white text on a black background For now I will continue to use it as it am easiest to connect to the Raspberry Pi, but I'll keep seeing if alternatives come up.

Pros
  • Comes with development resources and tutorial (Raspberry Pi/Jetson Nano/Arduino/STM32 examples)
Cons
  • There are errors
