I bought these for the walls of my newly built trailer to secure the gate and front to the side walls. All sides are additionally protected by stake pockets. *To be clear* I believe the "2000 lb" rating refers to working strength, NOT load capacity. I'm sure if I put a 2000lb weight on this piece it would cripple and eventually break, although I haven't tested that. I looked at MANY options before choosing it for my application and was skeptical. ADVANTAGES: - Simple, small and light - Very strong leverage and clamping force due to its size - The "Auto-Lock" latch is great. no pins, no locks, no additional components required - easy to install, all four ready in about ten minutes - ADJUSTABLE! Huge benefit here - Easy to "unlock" and operate - Teflon backup nuts ensure your adjustment is held in place indefinitely - Opposing nuts to lock your adjustment in place and Teflon nuts - Rubber coated handle ensures security with bare hands hands during operation CONS: (most are design flaws) - the LARGE pin that the U-bolt goes through slides up and down. The U-bolt makes TWO points of contact with the hook, so the up and down movement of the large pin must be centered for the lever to hold properly. Locknuts (Teflon) are difficult to adjust with a socket because the large pin goes up and down. Traffic. Requires them to be centered for proper adjustment unless you plan on sitting there with a wrench and making adjustments all day. - The hook end only has TWO holes for screws/bolts/etc while the lever side has FOUR. I'd like FOUR on either side for strength. The first thing that will fail with this build is the TWO screws that hold the hook 100% - the hook is too high and will have a shearing effect on anything it's attached to. It would be better if the hook sat much closer to the mounting surface. This design actually makes the hook weaker and requires more material to create. The hinge is a single steel (I think) riveted pin. The movement of the hinge is tight. I'm sure it will loosen up after prolonged use and I suspect the rivet end of this pin will fail after prolonged use. Good news if that fails. You won't lose the lever as it is "locked" by a U-bolt on the hook and an auto-lock lever on the back =] This means you can fix the device. In summary, I am very satisfied with these closures. I am sure you will get excellent quality for the price. Despite some design flaws that could have been better, this is a solid latch that can be used in many areas on flat planes. I can recommend it without any problems and will definitely buy more. I think I'll start with four more to secure the undersides of my sidewalls and gates simply because I'm impressed with these latches. Hope this helps =]
