Okay, I'll do the easy part first, the compass. It is a liquid-filled push-button compass, typical of all push-button compasses, and tends to stick if used at anything other than the flattest angle. He points north when he has a chance to "calm down". The thermometer presents its own challenges. Location is everything. When you use it on your wrist, it does an excellent job of measuring your skin temperature rather than the outside temperature. After removing, it takes a few minutes to adjust to the ambient temperature. Still, it works pretty well and is accurate. While the protective cases don't stand up to serious handling, they do serve well in the relatively sheltered area of my backpack. Overall, this is a good device that does what it's designed to do. Provide an emergency backup of your compass and give you a good idea of the temperature.
