As others have said, this thing is huge. A standard-sized sponge disappears into it. It won't fit behind my sink, but it's my fault for not measuring, but it's not very useful as a sponge container if it's taller than the sponge. It looks well made and attractive which is why I keep it to dry my cutlery. to save space on my regular dish rack. As for the debate about putting a detergent bottle in, my usual full-size detergent bottle is in there.
