I just finished 800 square feet of decking with this tool. It's easy to use and durable, but here are a few tips/tricks I've learned along the way. The ability to set intervals between instruments is good, but not enough. If you lay down a 10 foot board and only use this tool to hold it at a distance, the board is probably crooked. How much depends on the materials. I bought two of these and will be using one on each end which helped a lot but many of the boards were still not straight. I would recommend using additional spacers to level the boards. Do not press on the handle. Sure, it's tempting, but I can guarantee you'll stop. I was very careful and it didn't happen to me, but I saw how easy it is to break it. If attempting to squeeze the instrument into a tight space, place your palm on a flat surface under both handles and wiggle the instrument slightly. If it gets really tight, remove the shim (1/16 shim). completely removed) and I use it myself. Why only 4 stars? - The tool is a bit expensive. It has a good design, but there's really nothing special about it. In terms of materials, it should probably only cost $25-$30. The screws are decent but I broke a few and they are quite expensive. For the same price you get a much better quality deck screw. - Star bits are only good quality. A few of mine are bent and rusty. In addition, they are overpriced compared to regular sprockets. Boards are not easy to remove. I had to pull up some boards for various reasons and it wasn't easy. It wasn't super hard, but it was definitely harder than the Allen bolts.
