This drawing board is very durable. The wood is smooth, so there are no splinters. No assembly required, I was able to just set it up and use it right out of the box. It would also be nice to just sit down and draw with him on your lap. It is light enough that you can take it to the park to draw or paint. The size is also perfect for me. The price was right. Oh, and mine was taped at the joints so I didn't have a problem with one reviewer. I am so happy with my purchase
