This stool is basically SO close to the Top Notch Collapsy Stool sold by American Science and Surplus (AS&S) - now sold out. Very similar spiral unfolding and interlocking layers. But less than perfect because it's cheaper in the scaled down/redesigned state. IMPORTANT caveat about this type of stool - you should make amends: All stools of this type have too much friction fit! They sit down and slide. BUT I fixed it with a rowboat trick - use a foam board and you can grip the seat. you need. And then it can be a great place to sit, as well as a great little "table" to put some gear on. Important caveat with this particular chair: it's cheaper, about 1/5 shorter, and the cut-down has sacrificed a perfect fit. Solidity. QED: If you are careful you will get by with this stool. But it requires work and compensation from you to make it reliable. It's unfortunate. Take care of it and compensate and you will be golden.
