By iron: I chose between Sony ILCE5100, Canon Powershot G1 X Mark II and Canon EOS M100. On the side of the Mark II compactness, Sony - autofocus, M100 - the price. I chose Canon because it is faster than the Mark II in burst shooting and with a significantly larger sensor at a price of 31 instead of 44 for the Mark II, plus when you turn the display, you can’t see the insides. Sony did not like the design and the inability to adjust from the touch screen. By shooting: Initially, I planned to buy a smaller fixed lens (thinner, better aperture), but I found that the ability to hold the camera with the other hand by the lens and turn the zoom ring allows you to partially frame the scene when shooting, before that I always cropped it after shooting. I took a camera at an air show in Zheleznovodsk, took half of the frames just to check burst shooting and tracking a moving object. Later I found that the pictures turned out to be normal, at the point of the sun there is a small spot of illumination, and the whole frame conveys clouds and planes in focus. Ergonomics: It's not a compact, you can't put it in your pocket. Need a bag. But the result is much better than with a smartphone. Even during the day against the sun, even at night. In appearance: First I bought a white one, when I picked it up, I changed it to black. I chose from pictures from an Internet, there is everywhere a steel color with bright white elements. In fact, white turned out to be something like the color of cloudy plastic that turned yellow in the sun, the white camera itself of three colors: a bright white display, a cloudy body and a gray lens. Black is better IMHO.
