Review on iSi Basics Set of 3 Translucent Silicone Flexible Measuring Cups by Becky Maldonado

I don't know what I did without her!

I LOVE these cups! I mean if I lost them I would replace them the next day. That's how I like her! I don't think I could handle an important culinary event without her! These are LIQUID measuring cups, not dry. Dry measurement is different. Sometimes it doesn't matter, but for accurate baking you should use the kind you fill and then level (or ideally weigh your dry ingredients). However, a lot of things don't require that kind of precision. prepare the batter for pancakes and waffles directly in it and pour immediately. The flexibility makes them a dream for pouring batter. And since I don't have to use another pitcher, I don't have to wash anything else! I've baked cupcakes in a large one, even cupcakes and cake batter. My little OXO Egg Beater fits right in there, so I mix right in there. One of my favorite things to do is use them to add ingredients to my kitchen blender. The area where you water is narrow. And I don't like using that shield/spout so I put the ingredients in and can squeeze the cup so it's easy to add everything. Because they are malleable, you can easily fill food into narrow containers (e.g. syringe bottles or bowls). One of my favorite parts is the lack of a handle. I'm left handed and almost ALL measuring cups in the US have sizes on the right side, I only see metric ones. So I'll either have to put it back to front (for myself) to see "cups/ounces" or learn how to pour with my other hand! I can rotate it any way I want without a handle! The silicone is light and feels comfortable in the hand. Even when wet (unlike glass handles which can slip). I can knock them over or tap them with a spoon and not have to worry about chips. I try to use plastic spatulas for cleaning, I don't want to scratch the silicone by digging in with metal. I find mine is easiest to clean with really hot water. Allow the water to rinse most clothes, then wash as usual. I put them in the dishwasher of course, but I usually have to do it again before the next wash!

Cons
  • Not as thick as the other options
