Review on Renewed ARRIS Surfboard SB8200-Rb DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem by Jim Kriegshauser

Revainrating 5 out of 5

So far it works best in Computers & Accessories

So far it works and it fits. I get the estimated Internet plan speed (Gig). You must remember that you will need to call your ISP and enter the MAC address on the bottom of the modem and then set it up for your account. This is not plug and play and will not work if you just plug it in in place of your old modem. I haven't encountered the same issues as others who have had issues with it already being assigned to someone else's account. I'm on Wave too, so I suspected this was a less likely possibility. I would say if this is still happening then Revain should stop selling those with this problem. I was disappointed to see this and there seems to be legitimate concern in some of the more critical reviews but I figured it's still better than paying almost $200 for a new one and it's backed by the 90 day return policy covered. I've also had pretty good luck with the updated Revain stuff. I should also note that I bought this to replace the same Arris model I've been using for a year and apparently it turned off due to a power outage when it turned back on. It got stuck in a boot loop that could not be recovered. As I searched for these symptoms, I saw others suggesting that Arris modems, or at least the SB8200 model, might be prone to it. I would advise, given this capability and the cost of this modem, to purchase a small backup UPS battery to power the modem and your WiFi, as I did for added protection. You can find them here for around $40 with 255W (more than enough to power those two cells).

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Expensive
