I've been using soap nuts for almost all of my cleaning needs for over a year - shampoo, dish soap, dish soap and laundry. It's nice to know that I can clean up and still respect the earth's ecology. I use these soap nut pieces to make liquid because I find that liquid is more convenient and doesn't leave a mess in the washing machine. I find that the chunks are easier to use when making a liquid, rather than the whole nuts. First I followed the instructions and boiled the soap nuts in water and then strained the liquid. More recently, I've managed to cook without them. It seems to work great if left in a liter jar for a few days, shaking it regularly before straining off the liquid. It uses less power and is lighter. This keeps some soap in the nuts which I use to wash dishes by adding some water, stirring quickly and then pouring the liquid into the rinse water. When nuts no longer produce enough soap, they can be composted. I'm happy to use the liquid from these bars on everything but shampoo. For some reason I don't understand, I like to use Naturoli Extreme 18X Liquid instead. I dilute it with water (1-1.5 teaspoons per 8 ounces of water). Lathers much better, hair is cleaner and softer. It took me a while before I was satisfied with the results of my hair wash with Extreme 18X - even months. The only explanation I have is that previous shampoos and conditioners built up deposits and/or oil glands in the scalp to adjust. I'm glad I didn't give up because now I'm happy with the results. I have long hair and have been using conditioner all my life - still. Now I wash my hair once or twice a week and don't use conditioner. If I used conditioner before, it was because my hair was almost impossible to comb without it and because the ends were dry. Combing is no problem with Extreme 18X. The ends are still drier than ideal. I haven't found a solution for this yet. If I use a conditioner I used to use, Extreme 18X can't wash it out and it becomes a sticky mess. One thing I would like to distinguish from the items is that they come in a plastic bag. I wish they came wrapped in cloth like whole nuts. It was a fun experiment to make my life greener. Figuring out how to use the soap nuts was part of the fun. Blessings for your efforts to protect the earth. Together we will make a difference. Case Study -> Quarantine 2020 cleared the sky :)
