Be careful when installing on a wooden wall

So I bought this "universal" mini split mounting bracket and used it to mount my mini split system (Aircon 18kbtu) and it's well made but there's one big catch you see should consider. All outdoor mini split units have a different spacing between leg attachment points. This mounting bracket is "universal" in the sense that you can move the arms as far apart as you want to mount blocks of different sizes, and if you're planning on mounting to a concrete or masonry wall that's fine, but if you're on a To mount a normal wall to a wooden wall, you really need to attach the load arms to the uprights. If you have a standard wall, the uprights are 16 inches apart, so the load arms are exactly 32 inches apart. The screw holes in my unit's condenser are about 22 inches apart, and the instructions for this mount say you must "block" the wall to adjust the mounts to size. I think it would be possible to add a few extra studs to the wall, which wouldn't be a problem if your interior wall was unfinished, but I didn't want to rip out all the drywall and insulation just to add support to the wall. To install. So I mounted the arms on studs exactly 32" apart and went to the store and bought 2 x 36" steel rods for $8 and bolted them to this mount as arm crossbars. Then I installed the compressor on the bars and it looks and works great. I think the bracket really needs to contain cross bars for the outdoor unit to sit on.

Pros

Cons
