We had a tricky top of stairs set up, and with much trial and error we finally got this gate to work. The biggest flaw with this product is that the included hardware for a wall mount is NOT safe/secure unless you happen to have a stud in the exact right spot. Additionally, the square banister adaptors did not work with our narrow (1 inch) metal banisters. The sticky tape did not hold and the Velcro doesn't end up working with a narrow banister.I wanted to share how we did finally end up getting a secure fit:1) For the 1 inch square metal banister, we ended up using zip ties to hold everything together. This ended up being a fairly simple solution.2) unfortunately we couldn't mount the gate flush with the floor due to the extra molding around our hardwood floors and the way our metal banister is attached to the floor. There is an adjustable foot to help hold the weight of the gate (and keep the weight off the walls). This foot didn't extend far enough for us, so we added two heavy duty felt pads to the bottom. I feel better about having a felt pad on the bottom so it doesn't scratch or wear on our hardwood floors each time we open or close the gate.3) The wall mount with no stud and a baseboard. Unfortunately we ended up tearing holes into our drywall after the first installation. We had used wall anchors since we did not have a stud, but they just aren't strong enough to keep up with the heavy use of this gate. Our options at that point were to completely patch the drywall, or a carpenter at Home Depot offered another solution: we got a 3/4 inch thick piece of wood (and we painted it the color of our wall to blend in). We affixed it to the wall with heavy duty liquid nails and let that dry. Finally, we drilled in the gate using wood screws. When we have to take this down eventually, we will need to have all that drywall repaired anyway. If you have not yet destroyed the drywall, I would suggest looking into a toggle bolt or molly bolt. On the plus side, using this piece of wood meant we didn't have to use those cheap plastic wall spacers.4) the top and bottom latches don't stay aligned well as they slide along their tracks. This is mostly just annoying as you end up having to adjust the gate each time you open and close. We used duct tape to hold the two gate pieces together and this makes it easier to get the right alignment each time we open the gate.I hope this review is helpful to others and finding a safe solution for baby gates is not easy!
