A couple of points that were not clear with the product description.First, the kit to mount this gate without any drilling (using the rubber spacers) and when trying to mount to 2 posts, only has enough parts to secure a square post in 2 locations and a round post in 2 locations. Hence, the kit comes with 4 straps, 8 square rubber corner pieces and 2 round rubber collars. This is OK if the thick part of your round post detail is high enough - mine was not. My posts had a square portion on the bottom 14 inches and then only 12 inches of round detail in the middle, with the rest up top - another 14 inches of square post. Thus, when I positioned the 2 round rubber collars it was not even half way up the gate's metal side support bars. This meant that more than half of the side metal support bars had no means to be secured to my posts. The kit needs to have at least another 8 square rubber corner pieces and the backside spacer, for posts that are mostly square. In my case, I still used the round rubber collars in the middle and secured them with a thick zip-tie. I then used only 2 square corner spacers per strap and placed a strap at the bottom and top of the side metal support bars - where my posts were square. This worked out better, actually - as my 2 metal support bars are now secured in 3 spots each. Second, the gate is not suitable at the top of the stairs, if it will sit right at the edge of the top stair. Reason being, is that the lift design to disengage the pin-latch requires the bottom of the gate to sit up off the floor by about 2 inches. This to me, seemed like an accident waiting to happen, as a small child's foot or leg could slip under this and then down 8 inches to the bottom of the top step = potentially stuck between the step and gate. My case, again was OK - as my top of the stairs is open to the foyer and I had a short angled run of railing where another post sat, just about 2 feet back from the top step. Thus, my gate is above the floor and far enough away from the first step. Last note, the 2 pins used to latch the gate are a butt tricky to ensure that they both engage when closing the gate. There is no stop, and the gate can swing in or out freely from both sides. Thus, if you do not have the side support bars leveled or aligned properly with the pins on the gate - it will always take some finessing to line up. Oh, also - my squeeze latch was a bit loose. Seems like the pop-rivet was not installed tightly. Thus, I have to make sure it engages properly when I close the gate. All of this seems to be a bit too much fuss for a product that should be simple to install, use and protect your child.
