First bought the Carlson 0930PW Extra-Wide Walk-Thru Gate with Pet Door, White for the top of my stairs which had banisters instead of walls. I set them up, but could get the gate lock to "lock". But that was the least of my problems when I saw my little girl of 9 months crawl over and do a Hercules on this gate. SMH, either she'd just juiced on some baby steroids or this gates "pressure mounts" just didn't mount up to scratch. Just to give this bugger a fair shot, I forked up more money to buy a Stairway Gate Installation Kit (K12) by KidCo. Still no luck. So, I returned both items and went back top the research drawing board.Enter Regalo Extra Tall Top of Stair Gate.Now, the tricky part is that one of the balusters has the end of a stair rail attached to it. This would – or should affect the alignment. And it did. But you wouldn’t have guessed it thanks to the banister mounting system (it doesn’t damage the woodwork). To get it to fit I had to angle it a bit to the far edge of the banister post.Some reviews complained about the latch system – which to me is no deal breaker, and if you think about it, the double latch (one on top, one at the floor level) only feels awkward when you want to close the gate, but it reinforces the child safety factor. The other complaint I read was that the straps used to secure the mounting posts were of cheap quality. This prompted me to buy cable ties as a precautionary measure. But on assembly the straps were quite sturdy and held just fine (no need for those cable ties after all). So my guess is that the complaints were probably due to a few lemons, which can easily be set right via customer service.Most gates come with a horizontal beam at floor level that’s meant to serve as a frame support, but this comes with a caveat: The odd chance of tripping over it. Now this beauty doesn't have that problem – it’s a free walk through thoroughfare -- no obstructions, no tripping.A definite recommend.
