The Dandy Wireless Charger Tray that solves a problem and more!

My old F-150 still ran great and shone but if this baby was a real baby it would be riding alone this year. Also, if I keep the new one for that long, well, let's say some 87-year-olds won't be able to get on the side of the pickup. So I sold it and got a new brand new 2021 F-150 with so much tech I'll be tinkering with everything for a couple of years including the console and the 12 inch touch screen. One thing about my old sweetheart was that it wasn't high tech back then. The dash had all the mechanical radio knobs and HVAC controls, and half of them contained a useless 6-CD single-slot changer (have you ever seen how cute a cd rolled up in a closed cockpit in an ashtray full of quarters and a cigarette lighter when smartphones came out i had a suction cup phone mount for the windshield and a phone cord with a cigarette lighter hole which i had to share with my wife i I hated that wire I had taped to the dash after tangling my hand in it just when I absolutely needed it on the steering wheel and yanking my phone off the windshield before I could stop my new F-150 fixed it all.It has a CarPlay button which my touchscreen display with my driving directions and al len my CDs connects BH. ry via Bluetooth, among other things, so that my cell phone stays safely hidden in the shade or in my pocket. The problem is that my phone battery dies when I play a guide or music for a long time. Of course, there are USB-A and USB-C ports in the small console compartment that houses the ashtray, but I'm disgusted that I need another cable. I swear the spirit of Edsel must still haunt Ford's engineering department because it's just silly these days not to have a cordless phone charger in a car where you can't use it for long without charging your phone. The only variant of the 2021 F-150 (which you can't get in the color I want) is available with a wireless charger. It's gross, but CarQiWireless solves this problem and more! I've attached a photo showing what you get in the box. I was very excited about this USB-A short hole cigarette lighter adapter. Only the Edsel would have a spring-loaded, non-removable plastic door covering the cigarette lighter hole, and I figured I might be able to permanently convert that hole into a spare USB-A in a very convenient location for my wife. Unfortunately, there is almost no space in this door and it only closes 3/4 with the adapter installed. The connection to the charger itself is via USB-C on the underside of the shell (see image). I prefer the charger on the front passenger side for easier access to my phone. Because the console lid opens to a vertical position, it gets in the way of my elbow when I insert the cradle from the rear or driver's side. The downside is that the cable connection at the front makes it a little tricky to remove the tray to access the main console storage below. I really like that the CarQiWireless design includes a USB-A at the top to replace the console's only USB-A that it uses. I was puzzled by the T-shaped opening in the compartment behind the charger until I saw a picture of it in the Ford compartment of an earlier F-150 - designed as an access hole to allow cables to exit above the compartment. The 2021 F-150 console has plenty of room on either side of the tray, so it's not really necessary. In working mode you have a power button that glows blue when you turn on the charger. If left on long enough without starting the engine, it could allegedly drain the truck's battery. However, I left it on for 4 days without starting the truck and it made no noticeable difference (e.g. on a new truck with a new battery in a garage in the summer). However, I've made it my SOP to turn it on when I put my phone on it and turn it off when I take my phone out (you probably don't have to be as strict as I do, but that way I know he's won ). . Never let the battery run out). This charger advertises 10W, while my iPhone 8 and the charger next to my bed supports 20W wirelessly. So if your priority is to charge at light speed, this device (or any other that works with a cigarette lighter) may not be for you. For me the problem I wanted to solve was arriving at my destination with a guide and music and at least the same fee as I had when I left. I went under these drains on a one hour ride, starting at 47% charge and ending at 97% charge. I am a super happy camper! The charger also has a green light that illuminates when there is a phone on the charger that will accept a charge. There is plenty of space around the charger, and despite the fact that the charger has a non-slip rubber surface, my iPhone 8 can still be held on the charger, but in a position where it's not (or only intermittently) charging , and exactly to the left and back (as installed). As soft as it is, my new F-150 is still a pickup that will see its fair share of dirt roads, boat ramps and speed bumps, where I use the gas pedal to raise the front end and minimize bumps. You can expect the phone to move in the cradle. I don't plan on worrying about it too much because when I'm using CarPlay that's the only time I get a big battery drain, and there's a prominent battery icon on the CarPlay screen with a huge, bright yellow lightning bolt . while loading. Even I can't help but notice that this is happening. I know what you're thinking, my iPhone 8 should have matched my old F-150. Well, unlike the F-150, the iPhone seems to have a limit on its useful life built into its other amazing capabilities. I'm thinking about growing up or going home. Neighbor loves his new iPhone 12 Pro Max so I persuaded him to try it on my new charger. It partially went into the cargo bay, but unfortunately it couldn't be pushed far enough with the case to turn on the green light. It has a slide out case with an open front, no cards or anything, but it does have small grip tabs on either side. There's enough room at the top/bottom to slip a finger in and lift it back up, so width is the only issue. I'm sure it will fit with both the case removed and the real minimalist case. (I read somewhere that it was leaked that the iPhone 13 Pro Plus would be the same width.) Finally, it is hereby confirmed that the Ford-supplied tray in the 2021 F-150 console does not exactly match the CarQiWireless tray installed . (Assuming earlier models fit well.) However, as shown in the image, they can both be pushed in, overlapping the side tabs and lifting the Ford tray slightly in the air at the rear outer corner. Please note that the configuration I'm using is the only way to easily insert it, and only if you slide the CarQiWireless tray all the way to the passenger seat and then insert the back of the Ford tray before hanging the front of the Ford . compartment on the front crest. However, in this dummy configuration, the console closes, the CarQiWireless charger charges, and you can easily remove the trays to access the main console below (first on the Ford tray, then slide the charging tray to the center and grab ). . get up first). Not to get discouraged, I figured the worst thing that could happen is I mess up a Ford pan that doesn't quite fit. I chose the direction shown for the Ford tray because the lip on the outside of the front is slightly wider than if it were placed the opposite direction. So I set to work with my old but very sharp Swiss army knife, a hacksaw and a piece of sandpaper. I made a long wide cut at the front outer lip and a back cut as shown in the attached image. Voila! Both trays now fit as shown in the last picture. I did some sanding at the top of the front corner of the Ford tray (there's plenty of room in the back) so I guess I'll have to stop standing on that Ford tray putting everything away. Bullion because they can be weakened easily. However, if it doesn't fit, I could do some work on the (narrower) outer tabs of the much more durable CarQiWireless shell. To sum it up, the worst thing I can say about CarQiWireless is that I wish they had made the pen holder as much wider as my pen and left a bit more room for a wider iPhone case. I'm digging really deep, I can't think of any reason why I've ever wanted to remove those rubber pads for the pen holder and cable access tray, and I must have thrown those loose pads between the seats 50 times, so I hit them with a few drops of glue. Otherwise, if CarQiWireless can't get Ford to recall my new truck to fix the obviously defective tray hanger size in the 2021 console, I don't know how I could be that much happier.
