While neither my hubby or I have been diagnosed as hearing deficient, I got this to see if it would help hubby hear better. After we received the hearing aids we read the instructions which were which were brief but comprehensive. We were able to find one of the ear plugs that fit hubby's ears well and realized soon that the hearing aids did not come charged. We had to plug both units in the charging cradle and wait until all 3 lights showed green. Only then did the hearing aids work well. When they had extremely low charge, one of the aids was emitting a high pitch sound different than when the microphone is getting feedback. It was more like interference or some other other signal crossing over. Once we fully charged both hearing aids the problem went away and didn't return.At low volumes, hubby said he didn't even notice that the hearing aids were in or notice any dampened spound because he used the earplugs with with holes to allow natural sound to pass through. When he turned the volume up higher he said he could hear that other sounds sounds, including his own voice, were amplified louder than they typically would be. Other people's voices, however, were not significantly louder or more clear, The main things that were louder were higher pitched sounds like doors closing, glasses being placed on to counters, footsteps and feet shuffling, etc.It's hard to say what our experience would have been if either of us had more significant hearing loss. However, based on our experience they definitely do work to amplify certain sounds and may be helpful for people who have a hard time listening or couples who like to listen to the TV at different volumes.As far as physical comfort, everyone's ears are different but hubby said he barely knew they were there, so that's a plus.
