Review on ๐Ÿšœ DB Electrical Tractor Alternator Conversion Kit for Ford 8N with Side Mount Distributor - 1947-1952 Models by Steven Harmon

Disappointed with starters and alternators

Let me just start by saying that I have installed many aftermarket 6v-12v conversions on cars from the 1920's through the 60's. I've owned a hot rod shop for 20 years. Machines and production are easy for me. I'm starting, the packaging and shipping was good. No problem. My problem is that I live in the mountains of Arkansas. I can't just walk down the street to get parts or a hardware store. When I order a kit I expect it to fit right away and work with clear instructions. Trying to decipher the paper instructions, especially for the brackets, was a daunting task at best. I had to reference online photos of other people having the same installation issues, but they found a solution and shared it. During installation, the brackets (Chinese) from the kit did not fit. The mold was there, but the welding, holes, and casting were so poor I had to re-drill, bend, cut, and re-weld the tabs to get the correct shape. You have no quality control. Think of the "other" guy who has no crafting skills. The wiring (made in India) was just as bad. The overall design was low level. Will it work, yes. The wires were too long. The sheathing around the loom was crimped around the wires and the insulation was broken, forcing me to take it apart and clip the wires so they wouldn't short out. I tried calling DB and had to leave my name and customer service number. You didn't call me back. Unfortunately I am disappointed. Will it work out in the end? Yes. If you are looking for installation quality in installation and wiring - Extremely poor.
