I'm an Asus fan, but not to the point where I can't ignore their shortcomings. I recently had to return a laptop from them which turned out to be quite a setback, but most of the time they make some pretty great components. What I like most about this optical drive is its flexibility and ease of use. To me, one of the worst things you can experience when using an optical drive is the need to install drivers in order to use it. If you don't know, that means that if you need to install an operating system like Windows 10 using a DVD, for example, IF at all possible, it won't be as easy or straightforward. Not with this device, it will work as soon as that USB socket makes a reliable connection, even if you haven't booted into an operating system yet. Yes, I realize this is probably pretty common these days, but it's also a signature style and beauty! :) So yes, I would recommend this product if you really need an external DVD burner/optical drive. However, if you're only considering this purchase to install Windows from a disc, then don't do it. Windows 10 can be installed from a USB stick if you have another computer and an internet connection, all you need from the Windows package is a license key ;)
