First of all I have no idea what type of aquarium this clip can be used on. Every tank I've ever had had a rim instead of a lid. This piece is worth nothing. Second, if you throw food in the water, the fish will attack it. The larger fish wedged itself into the clear plastic boss and rubbed against the sharp edge of the plastic, damaging the scales. I took it out. The whole point of this device is to allow the food particles to sink so the fish don't swallow air. I have observed exactly the opposite behavior. The feed will be so concentrated that there will be competitive feeding behavior and all the fish will fight to get into the feed chute. If food is spilled over the surface, some of it will be thrown into the water, meaning less air will be swallowed. I really can't think of a single benefit this feeder offers. Do not buy.
