Learn how to unpack properly.

These pants are very easy to put on and take off without having to take off your boots. I usually order a size small or 26" waist and they are quite snug around the waist despite the stretch. If you want a looser fit at the waist, go up a size. The rest of the pants are still roomy but not too tight on the body, a little noisy when moving. To unzip, you pull it from the ankle and it opens at the waist. I know that though. I keep catching myself trying to unzip the zipper from the waist down like we usually do with regular ones pants do. The pants together when you zip/unzip aren't very long but seem to have a good fit, but we'll see how long that lasts. There is a snap at the ankle to hold the ankle tab together and there is a drawstring inside to tighten the little thing so you can tighten it on each ankle. The pockets are in a good place, with zips to keep items safe. The inside of the pockets is made of mesh material. The lining is the same as the regular $99 North Face jacket, with white lining and taped seams. I wouldn't machine wash it for fear of tearing the waterproof lining. Pants are thin and light. Perfect to roll up and put in your backpack.
