Samsung Galaxy S20 users - do not send it back until you read this.

Almost sent back because their app didn't work on Samsung Galaxy S20 (think new phone!) But I found the app "Photo Negative Scanner. Color Film Viewer and Converter" (picture attached) that I recommend for the Samsung Galaxy S20. I keep this scanner :)

Pros
  • Nice little thing
Cons
  • Bad instructions

works as advertised

Surely with this device you can shoot 35mm slides with your phone's camera. It takes a bit of trial and error to get good photos, and given the manual approach, it's not particularly quick. But the device mostly works as it should and was definitely worth €30 to me.

Easy to use, works as it should

I found this very easy to use. I've used it with an iPhone and even using a regular camera without an app was fine, then I go in and edit it with my own software if need be (I have color positive slides). The app was fun to play with, but I mostly used it without it. The product is low tech but worth it. I'd be pissed if I paid tons more for these fancy ones.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Expensive

Worth the investment

I bought this to convert 100 slides and it was worth the $40 investment. It's simple, intuitive and works. I used this with a Galaxy Note 9 but it should work with any camera phone. I didn't use the suggested app because I already have several photo apps. Because the light is projected through the film onto the camera lens, your phone may overheat. This happened to me after 30 minutes of continuous scanning. I just paused to let my phone cool down and then continued scanning.

  • Excellent overall
Cons

Sufficiently strong plastic bracket. The recommended app (PicScanner) is easy to use but produces small (150-200 KB) JPEG images on my iPhone 8. Much better quality images can be achieved with another app: Mag-Light. These images are 1.2-1.6MB in size and render decently on a large screen. The sample photos attached were copies of slides taken in Europe over 60 years ago. The quality is quite acceptable for home projection. I've tried several other ways to copy slides and this is by far the…

Amazing results and easy to use!

This is an absolutely amazing product that is so easy to use. I didn't even need an app and was able to scan almost 600 slides from the 1950s in about 90 minutes. I thought it was going to take forever, but once I got my camera set up, all I had to do was pop in the slide, take a picture, and move on. Just as a note, I used a 3.3x magnification with a 4 by 3 aspect ratio. This seemed to work with almost all of the slides. I tried the included app for a short time, but found it rather useless…

Simple, easy to use and works very well!

15 years ago I was given several hundred family slides from the 50s and 60s. Back then it was very expensive to print them all. They sat in a drawer the whole time until I came across this simple yet effective way to convert slides and negatives to digital format. At first I doubted the quality would be that good, but after my first try I was very impressed with the ease of use, clarity and high quality of the copy. A few tweaks with the edit function on my iPhone and the colors are real again.

Pros
  • Slide and negative scanner
Cons
  • Socket required

Good, but.

An inexpensive smartphone slide scanner (actually a digitizer) has just arrived. My very old PrimeFilmThat scanner makes much better copies, but its drivers no longer work with my Windows 8 and 10 computers. However, for $30 I think it's a pretty good deal. My Android phone (Moto G6) had a few issues that I had to work through first. The distance between the phone's lens and the film is too small for the Moto to focus, but I was able to fix this by inserting a half-inch spacer. to move the…
