Revainrating 5 out of 5

As rough as it needs to be.

This item complements my set of 10" Duosharp whetstones. Extra coarse stone is a huge step forward from the next finer grade and I doubt anyone really needs a workbench stone coarser than this For illustration, let me tell you that during use the stone makes a noise like in "Wow, that very rough stone sounds like I'm scratching concrete with a butcher knife!" I bought it to sharpen tools, but as i had a new very dull very large butcher knife i gave it a very rough initial edge it works quickly and leaves a serrated edge but if your goal is to carve a new profile in your knife this will rock get the job done. After working for a while to cut the profile with the very rough side, several passes gave me just the rough side a knife that easily cut the paper. A little buffing with a thin stone and I had a surprisingly sharp butcher knife in much less time than I could get without power tools, without the risk of overheating the blade and breaking the heat treatment. If you have a plastic base (it was cheaper to buy separately than with a stone, don't ask me why) you can flip it over and use the handle to sharpen garden or woodworking tools.
