I am a complete beginner and enjoyed learning how to use these pens with the tutorial videos. (They're free on YouTube, by the way, so you don't need to buy pens to access them if you want to see it for yourself.) I only have to deduct one star because the tutorial PAPER they give you is SO SHIT. In fact, it's so crappy that it's almost impossible to get the same results as in the video. It has a texture that makes it difficult to blend, and it seems to soak up the color so quickly that you have to reapply the same spot over and over to get a vibrant color. The tutorial videos show smooth paper that takes ink well and after some testing I can confirm that smooth (even cheap but not great) watercolor paper works much better with these pens. According to other YouTube videos, it looks like this textured paper wasn't always in stock. So, be aware that the crappy results you get in class aren't you, they're damn paper. I did other tests on smooth paper and it worked great. However, the tutorials provide an excellent introduction to using them. Have fun!
