Review on CURT 55774 7-Pin and 4-Pin Dual-Output Vehicle-Side Connectors with Factory Tow Package and USCAR Socket by Michael Bustamante

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Didn't have plug and play

I ordered this for my 2000 Ford F-250 Super Duty at the same time I ordered a Reese hitch for it. My truck originally only had a 4 pin connector so I figured this would allow me to keep the 4 pin and then get the functionality of the 7 pin as well. Both products arrived the same day so I installed the bracket for it on a Reese hitch before installing it on the truck and immediately realized you only have 4 bolts when there is room for 6 (2 to attach the bracket on the trailer hitch or vehicle), tools and 4 to attach the connector to the bracket). So I used 2 for the bracket and then 2 for the fork. Not the end of the world, but it would be nice to get 6 so we don't end up with empty slots. From there my friend and I went to install the hitch on the truck. After installing the hitch I looked for a USCAR connector for this wire harness but couldn't find it anywhere even though this wire harness said it would fit my truck. Maybe my truck doesn't have a factory tow package, it's 20 years old and I bought it about a year ago so I don't know what it originally came with from the factory. However, my truck did not have a USCAR plug. However, he had needed 7 wires to connect this system. I just had to cut the connector off of it and then fit it into the truck wiring harness using butt connectors. It works fine after that, but a 30 second plug and play operation turned into 30-45 minutes trying to find the schematic and map everything myself. Not the end of the world for being able to get it to work, but it's not what I thought I was going to get. I ended up giving this an overall rating of 4 stars because it's well made, but they include 2 bolts and also don't fit my truck as advertised. I would rate it 3 stars but I will say the installation issue is probably my own as I don't know if I have a factory towing package or not.
