Review on Summer Infant Banister Universal Mounting by Chris Drury

Plan Ahead and Act First

This Railing Fixing Kit was purchased to securely install additional gates at the base of the 2nd floor stairs. Note (in the photo) that the railing in this case is a forged railing. This was a minor issue to get the most out of the mounting kit ordered for the SQUARE railing. Using BOTH surface mount planks of wood, one was strapped to EACH SIDE of the all terrain travel post, creating a square configuration for the straps to attach to. Also note that I added an extra strap at the top of the iron post to accommodate any unexpected twists. The use of both wooden planks provided the necessary rigidity and security to mount the suspension fittings for the new children's gates. I would recommend this product for use on iron railings unless your railing is wood. However, care should be taken when installing and tightening the included straps and guides to secure the straps. {Prior to purchasing this mounting kit I thought about buying a plank of wood, adding two flat U-bolts, drilling the top and bottom, and then attaching them to the railing with washers and hex nuts. Then, using the surface of the panel, mount the gate hardware. In the end, this kit saved me the time and money of a trip to Home Depot, hardware selection, board size, drilling, and then hoping the idea was robust enough to work safely.}
