This filter is great for any small or nano aquarium. Probably not suitable for anything over 5 gallons, but can probably handle up to 10 gallons. The pump seems quite powerful for its size. This is a small filter. Speaking of filtration, it comes with a patented filter cartridge that has a mechanical filter membrane on one side and a chamber containing a small amount of activated carbon. Typical for a small air or tank filter of this size. Needless to say, the filter cartridge is rubbish. You should throw it away and replace it with a plastic scrubber found at the grocery store, or buy sponge filter material in bulk from local fish stocks. What you want from a filter media is a large surface area and enough space for the water to pass through. The included round sponge running across the entrance is suitable and harmless to shrimp.
