This drive is brand new and worked perfectly after replacing my failed drive in my fat 60GB PS3. You'll have to move the circuit board and metal case, and removing the case requires a small Phillips screwdriver that comes with most cell phone, watch, or eyeglass repair kits, but it's really easy! Also remember that when changing a drive, the ribbon cables are secured with a small black plastic clip that you see when the cable is plugged into the pin socket. Carefully pry up this black plastic with a small flathead screwdriver to avoid damaging it. It folds over easily, then when you change drives the ribbon contacts go back down where the blue flap is up and the contacts are down and gently push them back into the pin tray and push while holding them, carefully with a screwdriver down the black plastic. Retaining clip is omitted. Screw the case back on and you're done! There are also many Youtube videos showing this. I will check with Nextek again, the website was correct, the item was new and the warning on the metal case was correct. I also recommend installing a side fan on your fat PS3 and one on the back as this is a common problem with console crashes and drive failures. The power supply is located just below the ROM. Install a fan on this side if you don't have one. I am very happy with this purchase and glad to have received it from Revain. **UPDATE** September 5, 2015 Drive failed after 9 months. However, when I first bought this drive I thought it was a higher quality replacement version with a 1 year replacement plan instead of the 3 month plan like this. I contacted Nextec and spoke to them directly about this when it transpired that when I bought it I didn't seem to have understood that this particular unit comes with a 3 month warranty and was therefore a lower quality laser. This company went out of their way to fix this issue to a degree that I have never seen in customer service. Even though the drive failed I added a star because if you have a problem you get great customer service, fast and honest. It's really hard to find, and if you need replacement drives for your games console, getting them from Nextec Direct is easy and simple. I will buy another model with a one year warranty and a better quality laser for longer life as I have a fat PS3 and this model runs weak and burns discs poorly. So a higher quality model can extend my life.
