Review on NX BTR B Universal Wireless Bluetooth Receiver by Serguei Mracek

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Online in 5 minutes, works great + suggestions

For starters you should know that I am an electronics engineer by trade. I take design and operation seriously. The transparent, strong packaging of this product is designed to attract attention; I did not expect this. However, the instructions are much smaller than the packaging material and should be followed during the cleaning phase! For a good product, the instructions are very small and minimal, but accurate. The instructions will suffice if you have done something with Bluetooth before. Connect two cables to the bottom of the device, replace the bottom cover (smart design) and connect the power supply. The power cord is out of the way and not too long, maybe 4ft or less, and I had to fiddle around a bit to plug it in and place the antenna in a prominent spot. When receiver placement is critical to excellent performance, a 3-foot cable can help. Estimate: 10 cents. Of course you can use an extension cord. One cable is power, the other is audio. The audio cable is a mini-plug (like headphones) and a mini-plug, and I used the supplied Y adapter cable with two RCA plugs for my hi-fi receiver. Also very short but will probably be close to your receiver anyway. Not so with food! My Android phone found the recipient straight away and the instructions recommended 1234 as the verification code. I don't know if other codes work. Next I had music! For this silly reason, you may need to follow the instructions. The manual is not available on nxgtechnology.com at the time of writing this document. Distance measured at 30ft and 27ft across the same wall using my Samsung Galaxy S4 and a tape measure. Slightly smaller with the (original) iPad and definitely depends on how you hold it. Also note your trigonometry that the "thickness" of the wall perpendicular to the radio signal is less than the oblique angle of the walls/stands/heat ducts from perpendicular. Accordingly, the range will be reduced. I was NOT able to get the receiver in a high, unobstructed view of the room and instead it sits between my DirecTV box and my receiver. Still works great as stated here. I know there is some comment/blog data on removing weights from the bottom of the receivers to improve antenna performance, but I haven't done it here and have had great results. The sound quality is excellent. I didn't hear anything out of the ordinary when I first used it, but I'll try and remember to update this review after a few weeks of listening. First great news. It's also the only receiver I've found that advertises Bluetooth 3.0. Maybe they all implement it, but this is the only one I could find that states it. Purchase experience: I placed an order on Monday and received a confirmation on Tuesday. On Wednesday I finally got a shipping notification with a delivery time of 1 day to 1 week. Later that day, on Wednesday, I received the item at my doorstep! Understand. The only thing holding me back from 5 stars is the expectation of reliability info AND unnecessarily short cables. ============================== Update from February 2014. Small problem. Still working fine, sounds great except it stopped receiving/pairing my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone. It connects to other phones (not mine) and to my tablet, pc etc. Also the phone connects to my pc, both machines and other places for audio. As this was my main use it is very annoying. I did the usual soft boot by turning off the power for a while. While I don't have an answer, I'm more inclined to believe it's a phone than an NXG receiver. However, I thought I should report it. And the cables still annoy me. I can't place this unit where it has the best reception without AC power and audio extension cords. They are just too short for normal use.
