Now we have a family where our cats are heavier. Our heaviest weight was 18-19lbs when we last weighed him, but to be honest it's been so long I wouldn't be surprised if he's 20lbs. From reading the Q&A and the reviews I've honestly gotten a lot of mixed results if this actually works for cats with larger sides. Well, we took the risk and it paid off! There was a door in the house that eventually led to the litter box so it could never be closed and the person whose room was in that room could never be alone because the moment he was put to bed what one day the cat (usually mine. XP) would throw the door wide open. Since we installed this cat door, the door can be opened, closed, it doesn't matter because all four of our cats can get through. It has been a life saver and reduced stress in our family. As for our 20 lb cat, we installed the brush head and he just plops down on the floor and slides through with no problem when he's in a hurry! (I've seen him rush forward without flopping, but when in a hurry he flops and crawls!) Others just run through. And if you find your cat can't get through, the brush head can be removed, so don't worry! If you have a similar problem, then this thing is for you! Hope this helped!
