Don't change cables

A simple device that has made everyday PC use a lot easier. Of course, when users say something isn't working or has stopped working, that's a valid complaint and their horror is understandable. However, 70 or 80 percent leave positive reviews and this product is very easy to return. You may have had bad experiences, but twice in a row the chances of something as simple as this switch happening twice in a row are slim. The main problem is finding a device that works with more than two computers. Rosewill is one of the few on the market that offers 4 entrances at a reasonable price. Many switches for two PC inputs. I have three: a laptop, a Mac mini that are on the table within easy reach, and a computer tower on the floor by the table. I used two input devices that had to switch cables to accommodate three computers. I was surprised to find this little gem that supports 4 PCs and 4 peripherals. I see where it's possible for someone to get confused and crossed out while trying to use it. That's because the instructions aren't that helpful, but with the right setup, my experiences have been great. Here are the instructions that should be included, but weren't: When holding the device with the input cords pointing away from you, it's important to know which is which. From left to right 1,2,3,4. 1 and 4 are long. More than you'll likely need. Surely too long is better than too short. Numbers 2 and 3 (two middle cables) are shorter. This worked well for me as the number 1 cable was long enough to reach at a desk and plug into a USB 2.0 port on the back of the motherboard. Number 2 is connected to my mini on the back of my desktop. Number three to my laptop. It is important that you number each of your computers, PCs (or Macs) 1,2,3,4. My tower is 1, mini is 2, laptop is 3. The fourth cable, another long unused one, is folded behind my desk. Almost everything is tied together with little black zip ties which I keep, I keep a bunch in my desk drawer, reuse some to tie everything up nice and neat so there isn't an impenetrable rat's nest of wires behind my desk. . It's a good idea to go to your local Dollar General Store and buy some double-sided tape. Four small tabs on the bottom corners of the switch keep it secure on your desk and are also easy to move or remove. A piece the size of a fingernail holds the switch to the underside of the table or anywhere you like. The switch works cyclically. 1,2,3,4.1,2,3,4.1,2,3,4. this. green, green, red, red. If I press the switch and the left green LED lights up, it means my tower computer is number one. Next, right-click Green, number two, my Mac Mini. Third press - left red LED, number three, my laptop. 4. Press - right LED, which is not used in my case. For example left green-1, right green-2, left red-3, right red-4. I look at the switch and see that the right green LED is lit. At first glance I recognize it as number two, which is why my Mac Mini is connected to my mouse, keyboard, printer and even an external SSD connected to the 4th USB port. I'm using a wireless keyboard and mouse with a dongle plugged into the switch. I bought a 2A power adapter with a USB A socket. A USB-A to USB Mini-B cable connected to the switch to provide power to the SSD. Warning when switching to an external drive, otherwise you may lose your data. Before moving from one computer to another, first disconnect the SSD from the current computer using the small icon in the system tray at the bottom right corner of the screen, or turn off this computer and then delete it. Everything is working fine. I foresaw some problems, but so far it's not a bug. One push of a button and my devices switch seamlessly. Coupled with a monitor that easily switches between Tower and Mac, it was really convenient to use three of my computers almost simultaneously. The USB 3.0 drive will work, but transfer speeds may be limited by USB 2.0 specifications. I could order a USB 3.0 switch but don't need it for keyboard, mouse etc. The SSD is for convenience, I keep my most important data on a NAS mirror. I've used a few other switches that had minor (annoying) glitches, but I've been using this little gem every day for a few months now and it works great as it should. Walter o.
