D type arm is too short to measure properly. When measuring D-cell and other batteries, the meter jumps instead of stopping. In the good range, it never goes beyond half the range, even using new batteries from different stores. I had a different manufacturer's gauge of a similar design but with the right lever length, which worked great. I would avoid this brand.
