Although the latch is rated for 1000 pounds or so, it will not close unless you are using it in a static application. I've used these latches to hold the trailer door closed and the force was much less than advertised, but they always open with road vibration. Totally useless in my application but the latch itself seems to be of good quality if you are using it on something that is standing still.
