Unfortunately, the "posts" on the part of the jaw insert labeled "1,2,3" are too high. You will reach the bottom of the other sponge insert before the shrink connector's shank deforms enough to form a crimp. You can pull the wire right out of the shrink connector as if you didn't even use a tool. It doesn't matter what gauge of connection cable you use; These pins are too high for the tool to crimp. A small dial that adjusts the compression force does not solve this problem. Once those posts hit rock bottom, it doesn't matter if you have high or low compression. no compression takes place. Unfortunately this tool doesn't work as otherwise it seems to be well designed. It's heavy, the ratchet works great and the grip is very comfortable. but if the tool doesn't do its main crimping job, it's useless. I could try sanding down the pins to get the tool set working, but of course that will remove the finish, and I don't really need to switch tools for it to work.
