The lamp itself has five stars and costs $59. However, the lamp arrived with the diopter retaining ring removed. If I hadn't read Revain's comment on this product before purchasing it, I might not have been aware of this risk. Second, when using this lamp, for optimal viewing of objects in the same plane as the mounting base, the lens must be placed 9 inches above that plane, however, the spring tension of the lower arm increases as it flexes as it pivots down from its vertical position - hence is achieving this 9 inch standpoint at full horizontal extension is a serious test of the lamp's external bending limits. Finally, the lamp's offset weight at full deflection creates a torque that can cause the polypropylene tabletop with mounting base to deform. I had to add metal plates to either side of the mounting surface (aka polypropylene table top) to protect the table edge from damage over time. To be forewarned is to be prepared.
