Review on Denon Receiver Streaming Compatibility Bluetooth by Jimmy Jefferson

As soon as I took the unit out of the box, I had concerns about the build quality because it's so much smaller and lighter than the beautiful 17-year-old model. I'll trade TEAC Beast for a replacement. My first disappointment was that the 14 gauge cables I used with the Ascend Acoustics CBM-170 speakers didn't fit the 16 gauge Denon connectors. The attached image shows the back of the Denon over the back of the TEAC (receiver below, DVD/CD player above). Anyway, I bought the right speaker cable and experienced a second disappointment. I must have pressed the wrong button during setup because the device said "No network connection". I've spent a lot of time trying to solve this problem, including going to the online manual, to no avail. Eventually I discovered that Denon had a web chat service and I was thrilled when they talked me into it. So I spent the rest of the day listening to the beautiful sounds pouring out of my speakers. My Android phone connected easily via Bluetooth and I was able to connect to an internet radio station whose FM signal was never very good where I live. That night I went to bed happy until I experienced a third disappointment: around 2:15 am the set turned on and started broadcasting the last radio station I had been listening to earlier in the day. This morning I checked the manual and figured out how to get the alarm, but the alarm didn't seem to be set. I hope that doesn't happen again tonight, but just in case I'll turn the volume down to minimum. Overall I'm very happy with this little thing, despite the frustrations outlined above and the inevitable learning curve with a new remote. Another strange thing. A: My wife's iPhone works fine in Bluetooth mode, but my Android phone has trouble connecting from any distance. The only way to play music from your phone is to put your phone on the device.
