There are many negative reviews about this blanket, but are they deserved? In a word, no. I suppose it depends on your intended use, but it's by no means a bad thing. I have used it when camping for the bottom of a tent and for moving large items. Works great in these situations. That's what I think these blankets are for. They are durable and resist impact. This isn't the kind of blanket you want to put on your bed and sleep with every night. Sure it will keep you warm and when you need it this blanket will do, but it's much better for outdoors and situations when you don't want to miss out on a better blanket. Oh, and the smell. People keep mentioning the smell of this blanket. I'll admit it smells a little like gasoline, but it's not the strong, overpowering smell that people are describing in these reviews. For comparison, I have an expensive Pendleton blanket and it smells similar. Partly because of the rug, partly because of the smell of this rug, partly because it is cheaper and more fire resistant. Again, you probably won't like that blanket on your bed, but it's not a problem elsewhere, and I've never noticed an odor, even in a small tent. It is only present when you bring your face to it and inhale. Perhaps some smell stronger than others, but others may exaggerate their experience or have a more subtle sense of smell. Anyway, it was a good buy for my purposes.
