Very compact radio, small and fits very well in a bag or small basket/storage. The radio uses three rechargeable AAA batteries. On the radio, the characteristics are good. The speaker is good as the radio controls are loud and clear. I tested the microphone with the VHF installed and the sounds from the microphone were loud and clear. Overall a good backup radio. I would buy this again. By the way, this radio is not waterproof. It's JIS 4 waterproof. I put the radio in a ziplock bag and use it that way. see JIS Stds below.
