Cheap, and cheaply made; buyer beware.

Something being made cheaply is not always a negative, but in this case, it was. One of the great things about Ebay is that there are a ton of sellers offering products which are priced very well for the buyer on a budget, or for families going through a rough patch where money is tight. These days, money is tight for a lot of us. That’s why leaving fair and informative reviews is so important. When you’ve got a lot of information, you can almost always make a better decision. So here we go!With this particular product, I was looking for something to help declutter my craft desk that wasn’t part of a rose-gold wire frame set, or any of the other common desk organizers which are currently in fashion. This set is unique and very unlike most of the others I’ve seen on Ebay lately, and I love deer—that and the price made it an easy selection for me.When it arrived, it was clear that the item was not made of wood, per se; more of a pressboard with a laminate overlay. I think some of the other models may be larger—this one is on the small side. Many of the tabs and slots were sized incorrectly and therefore needed some extra work to make everything fit and match up. The manufacturer’s choice to use a wood screw doesn’t add much in terms of support and frankly is kind of odd. Screwing them in often made pieces lay crookedly and the screws themselves are rarely centered in the slot. Even when taking care, screwing them in often splintered the wood, making the whole thing weaker and adding to the somewhat beat up appearance and cheap feel. Pegs would have worked just as well and would have given the item a more uniform appearance. The drawer itself holds an okay amount, but isn’t sturdy. When I was finally finished putting it together, I realized that one of the most fragile parts of the laser cut on the deer’s head was missing, giving him a rather alien appearance, as opposed to a deer. All of these things, along with the wobbly nature of the item ultimately made the purchase not worth it for me.It is indeed a cute piece when compared to the rest of the products currently offered for desk organization, and the price was low, but I don’t think it’s worth it. If you’re aware of these problems and still want to take a chance? Set aside some time and effort and you can make it a more durable item on your own; it’s definitely doable. Swapping out the wood screws for wooden pegs would, I think, look nicer. Grab a wood file to make sure all slots are sized correctly, and finally, some wood glue would definitely help to shore the whole thing up. Heck, if you’ve got access to some decent wood and a table saw, you can use this piece as a pattern to make your own!As it stands I was pretty unhappy with the purchase and I rarely leave bad reviews. What I got was on the small size and not strong enough to use regularly. I give it about a month before it ends up in the trash. Nice idea. though.
