I have replaced three failed Drain Master electrovalves in the last five years. One of them only lasted 17 months of continuous use on wheels. Time will tell if the Barker Auto Drain is any more reliable. Barker automatic traps are user serviceable and all replacement parts are available from Barker. The switch and Barker wiring are more powerful than necessary. The switch should last forever: It is designed for 200 times the current draw of the motor! I haven't taken it apart but if the rest of the Barker Auto Drain is built so solidly I'll be very happy. The failed Drain Master valves are stuck and the device is not subject to maintenance! While the Barker is usually pictured on a standard valve, the Auto Drain has no valve at all. Instead, Auto Drain mounts to the valve flange and controls the existing valve (install the new valve at the same time - it's cheap). While Drain Master valves open or close in about two seconds, Barker valves take 7 seconds. I didn't pull my stopwatch, but seven seconds seems right. The longer the run time the better as a Barker motor with a different gearing has to provide more torque and longer run time means less stress on moving parts. If you need proof, go up a long hill and then try to run up the same hill as fast as you can. It does the same work (climb to the top of the hill) but you get tired of doing the job faster.
