I used these screws on a mahogany fence. I used steel brackets to hold the rails in place and used these screws to attach the rails to the brackets. The first thing I noticed was that the torx key that came with it didn't fit well in the screw head. They don't fit well and you will likely slip off the screw head many times. You must control the screw with your free hand as you screw it in, otherwise it will cut the wood poorly. I ended up taking the screw to a local hardware store and found a better driver that fit my head nicely. Huge improvement. Another problem is that the "pre-drilling effect" of the screw can actually tear through soft woods like mahogany. You must move very slowly initially or you will chip the wood and not get a good and tight fit. The first 1/4 inch of the screw is heavily serrated to make drilling wood easier. This is good for hardwood, bad for softwood. However, I'm not deducting a star for that. I took off the star for the screwdriver for being mean.
