I used some "normal" metal protectants. Most of them are marked by WD-40. After reading the product description and user comments, I ordered a spray can to try on some of the bare metal surfaces of my tools. Press drill shaft, miter saw slide, etc. They are not stored in a very stable environment. .no heated store with humidity control etc. When I received the bottle (and love that it comes in a hand held sprayer. Aerosol cans always spray the contents around the store) I also applied some of this product directly to a clean rag on several surfaces that seemed to need gentle handling. I was very happy to find that there was almost no smell, odor, stink, whatever you want to call it, and that it spreads over surfaces really effortlessly, leaving a nice, non-sticky metallic finish that has been around for a few months, since I've repeated a few light uses and also worked in a few new places and it's done everything I hoped it would. This "initial rating" is mine. Good product.!
