They are solid and well finished. The black areas of the plastic frame are softer sponge plastic that is more resistant to drops than hard yellow plastic. I haven't tested how well they resist water, but they seem to seal well. They have an indicator LED next to the charging port that shows the battery status - it glows green during normal use and turns red when the battery is around 20%. When charging and off, the indicator is red, and when fully charged, it turns green. Note that they have built-in rechargeable batteries but NO charger is included. I used my Samsung 2 amp "fast charger" for charging with the cable that came with it. The device drew just under 1A and a full charge took 5.5 hours. It's long when you need to use the flashlight again. I don't have a light meter for objective testing, but I'd describe both modes as "impeccably bright." When fully charged, even LOW is too bright to watch. HIGH is brighter, but not by much. After 2 hours of use, both modes became noticeably dimmer - HIGH suffered the most, and LOW was only slightly dimmer. The operating time was 5.5 hours on high and 9.5 hours on low (flashing mode not checked). The magnet is strong, and thanks to the clever design, when you place it on metal, the device actually rests on a soft plastic frame (rather than a hard metal magnet that can scratch) - a nice touch. The price for a pair of battery operated lights was high but they are well made and charge and last a long time - I'll probably buy another set.
