Ok, the address of the elephants is a number, yes, they smell quite strongly of rubber. The smell dissipates after about an hour after unpacking from the packaging. I understand that some people are very sensitive to smells, so I would recommend leaving them outside for a while before installing or handling them. However, these pads act as excellent vibration isolators! I bought them for a new turntable (great Denon VL12 Prime!). I currently have these spacers under a 1" top chop maple block that I use as a turntable platform. The spacers isolate the platform and turntable from the surface of my stand. To further isolate the player, I mounted it on four vibrapods (model 4). Not only did this result in a solid, over-damped base for my turntable, it also allowed it to perform better. Noise levels are noticeably lower, tracking is more accurate, and sound is fuller and more expansive. It's no secret that vibration can ruin sound, especially on "sensitive" things like a turntable.
